David, a 43-years old American software engineer of Nupro Company, has been to more than 10 countries, such as Germany, French, England, Austria, etc., and to more than 20 Steel Making Plants. Early this year, 4 people including David’s colleague, Peter, an electrical engineer, his cooperation partner Chinese UET Company and he have been to No.3 Steel Making Plant for the execution of the project of Ladle slag detecting system.

When David and other people visited caster maintenance area, No.1, 2&3 continuous casters along walkway for the first time, they could not help saying: “Plant No.3 is very big, very clean, and very tidy.” Later, they further witnessed the employees’ image of No.3 Steel Making Plant during the installation and commissioning of No.3 continuous caster: Three casters continued production day and night without any accidents of production, equipment and safety; The workers settled the problem within one minute when the tundish sprout of No.6 strand of No.3 caster once broke; Every one in casting platform and operation room was busying with working with no chatting and smoking, such as, operators were busy with production and maintenance people was monitoring equipment, and everything was in order. Technicians Yang Xinquan, Li Muyun, Sheng Xisong, put forward some proposals, such as, modified control interface of ladle slag detecting system, activated automatic control function according to weight and time respectively and adjusted parameters by off-line simulation for system software, which efficiently met the actual production requirements; Que Ye, an electrician with all-round skills, tried his best to provide various needed signals, which ensured normal running of equipment supplied by foreign party. Employees from four shifts and relevant posts actively communicated and coordinated with foreign specialists, some can speak English smoothly; some can not, but the simple English words popped out of their mouths can still get foreign specialists understood.

With the first-class environment and top-grade team of SMP No.3, David said to technicians of the plant seriously: your factory is one of the best factories in the world. After the successful completion of the first-phase work, David said again delightedly that although he has been to many Steel Making Plants, he had good impression here, and stressed: “It is from my heart.”

And in 2007, it produced steel of 7.38 million tons beyond its design capability, reached the first class level both in China and overseas with acceptance rate up to 99.97% and achieved remarkable profits with mass production on strategic varieties, such as automobile plates, silicon steel, pipeline steel, etc. Before that, top managers from United States Steel Corporation, Nippon Steel Corporation and other large Europe Steel Making Plants paid visit to No.3 Steel Making Plant and gave high praise on it.
